I took Biology in my freshman 2016-2017 academic year. The purpose of this course is to help student learn and understand the biology in daily life and explain translation and improvements in scientific concepts. I enjoyed it and developed many significant skills.
Artifacts:
- Two scientific posters (Betta splendens and Enzymes Experiment)
- Evolution Book
- Wildflower Project
- Meiosis Dance Animation
Betta splendens Poster:
This poster was made in the first semester, fall of 2016-2017 academic year in Biology, by Zoe Phillips, Maria Menjivar and Myan Wang.
When we were learning and understanding the reaction of Betta splendens, we deigned an experiment. We had good teamwork, we used models, we collected and analyze the data . As the first project that I did in Biology class, I was stressed. I really appreciate when my group members were trying to be helpful. I learned a lot of the processes of making experiment. I would be more accurate with the data I collected and I would be able to do all the technology work by myself.
Enzymes Experiment Poster:
This poster was made in the first semester, winter of 2016-2017 academic year in Biology, by Maya Long, Charlie Deichman-Caswell and Myan Wang.
In the unit of Chemistry, we were learning the function of Enzymes. After learning and understanding how do enzymes work, we started thinking some questions. We wanted to know how do pH levels affect working enzymes so that we designed our second experiment of this year. We wrote the argument and suppose hypotheses, we did experiment together and collected our data, we took pictures of the models we used and uploaded them to the app Microsoft Power Point. I will move the contexts, graphs and images if I do it again.
Children Evolution Book:
This children book was made in the second semester, spring of 2016-2017 academic year in Biology by Myan Wang.
This book was made for kids in elementary school so that the reading level had to be controlled. This book reflected what I learned about evolution and I chose natural selection. I used Book Creator as the app, I cited my reference in the end. I did research of Black kites family and learned some facts. I tried to be creative and attractive and I was really happy when other people appreciate my work. I could have a more creative story and keep adjusting it after I finished because I finished at the first week of this project.
Some of the flowers that Myan Wang collected in the spring of 2016-2017 Biology. Started in March and finished in the end of May of 2017.
I took this video on May 20th, 2017 when I was writing the Lab Report. Thank you for Hanjing Huang who recoded this for me.

Myan Wang did this Wildflower Project lab report in the second semester, spring of 2016-2017 academic year in Biology.
This project made me paying attention on some little things that I hadn't noticed before. I walked into the woods with my friends everyday after school. I collected around 80 flowers and I really enjoyed it. I managed time efficiently and put efforts in it. I used two books for identification and mounted my flowers neatly. I learned some technology skills which made me be able to create database and spreadsheet on the laptop and I was able to help a lot of my classmates. But I should organize all my flowers before I put them in the album.
Meiosis Dance Animation:
A creative dancing project danced by Charles Deichman-Caswell, Aidan Cook, Zefan Gao, Benjamin Gruodis-Gimbel, Matthew Mangum and Myan Wang, recorded by Takisha Reece in the winter of 2016-2017 academic year.
After learning the unit Cells growth and division, we had to create dance in order to show the process of how meiosis work. Before deigned the dance, we need to understand the concept. This team work project taught me that communication and cooperation are important skills. After having a simple idea of the dance, we picked music and tried to time it. All the class liked our dance and Takisha considered ours as one of the best dance.
